A board-certified radiologist reads every scan.

When your veterinarian refers your pet for an ultrasound, our credentialed technologist performs it at your home or at your vet's clinic. A board-certified veterinary radiologist (DACVR) reads every study, and the report goes to you and your vet.

Home visits are for cats and dogs under 25 lb. Larger pets are scanned at your vet's clinic.
How it works

Two ways to get your pet scanned

Every exam starts with a referral from your veterinarian. Where the exam happens decides who books it.

AT HOME

You book, and we come to you

  1. Get your referral. Your vet ticks the exams your pet needs on the Solara referral form.
  2. Book and pay online. Upload the referral, choose the same exams, and pay securely.
  3. Pick your visit time. You choose a time right after paying.
  4. We arrive. Our technologist performs the scan in a quiet room at home.

For cats and dogs under 25 lb.

AT YOUR VET'S CLINIC

Your clinic books for you

  1. Your vet's team books the exam for a day our technologist is at the clinic.
  2. You get an email to review our terms and save a card. Nothing is charged yet.
  3. Bring your pet in at the scheduled time. The scan happens with your vet's team.
  4. You're charged after the exam is complete.

Pets 25 lb and over are scanned at the clinic, where your vet's team can help with positioning. Echocardiograms are also performed in clinic only.

Either way, the specialist report goes to you and your vet, typically within 48 hours, and your vet talks you through what it means and what comes next.

Exam menu

What your vet can refer for

Your veterinarian chooses the exams based on your pet's symptoms and history. Each one includes the scan, a specialist's interpretation and a written report.

01

Complete Abdominal Survey

  • Liver and gallbladder
  • Spleen and both kidneys

03

Triage / FAST

  • AFAST: four areas of the abdomen where fluid collects
  • TFAST: the chest wall and the area around the heart

Often recommended to check for free fluid in the belly or chest, such as bleeding or fluid build-up. A quick, focused scan.

Before the visit

Preparing for your appointment

A few things to know so the exam goes smoothly, at home or at the clinic. We confirm the details when you book.

Fur clipping

A small patch of fur over the exam area may be clipped so the gel reaches the skin. It takes seconds and grows back normally.

Fasting

Abdominal images are clearer if your pet hasn't eaten for 4 to 6 hours, but it isn't required. Most other exams need no fasting. We'll confirm in your booking confirmation.

At home

Have a quiet room ready and other pets secured. Your calm presence is the best preparation. We go at your pet's pace and stop if they become distressed.

Medications

Continue all regular medications as prescribed, and have a current medication list ready for the technologist.

Every study is interpreted by a board-certified veterinary radiologist, and your veterinarian makes all treatment decisions. Solara is a scheduled service and is not for emergencies. If your pet needs urgent care, contact your veterinarian or the nearest emergency hospital.
